Do you want to pursue a career in healthcare but unsure of the right path to take? We are here to help!

Students who do not know what specific healthcare path they are interested in should enroll in the general pre-health program so that they can access pre-health resources and guidance from pre-health coordinators. Once a student identifies the path they want, they can easily change into a more specific pathway, such as pre-medical or pre-dental.

Students are encouraged to take introductory courses and engage in career exploration. The Introduction to Healthcare Professions course allows students to investigate various health-related fields and develop an academic plan for their chosen careers. Additionally, students should consider enrolling in General Chemistry, as it is often a prerequisite for most healthcare professional programs.

Career exploration opportunities include: career speaker events, conversations with the co-directors of pre-health, information sessions about shadowing opportunities, alumni connections, and more. Shadowing is also highly encouraged.

Undecided on your major?

In addition to choosing a pre-health pathway, students need to choose a major. Many students at Carthage enter undecided on a major, taking the time to discover their passions through their classes, speaking with faculty, and meeting with a career specialist.
